The first thing that must be done is to publicly show solidarity for Muslim Americans. They are our friends, they are our neighbors. They deserve our protection just as much as everyone else.
Try visiting your local mosque and asking them how you can help them fight anti-Muslim rhetoric.
If you see someone engaging in anti-Muslim speech, you should stop them and tell them why they're only helping ISIL's cause.

You should also contact your congress representative and tell them that refusing Syrian refugees does nothing but play right into ISIL's hands. You can find out who that is and how you can reach them here.
